Jakarta, xweb.biz.id – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto (HK), on Thursday (20/2/2025). Hasto was detained for his alleged involvement in bribery and obstruction of investigation related to the fugitive Harun Masiku.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto confirmed the detention during a press conference at the KPK Building in Jakarta. “The suspect HK has been detained for the next 20 days, from February 20, 2025, to March 11, 2025. This detention can be extended as needed for further investigation,” said Setyo.

The Case Against Hasto Kristiyanto

Hasto Kristiyanto was named a suspect after losing his pretrial motion. KPK charged him with obstruction of justice in the bribery case involving former PDIP legislative candidate Harun Masiku (HM). Harun Masiku has been a fugitive since January 8, 2020.

According to Setyo Budiyanto, Hasto allegedly instructed his subordinates to help Harun Masiku escape. “HK ordered Nur Hasan, the caretaker of the aspiration house at Jalan Sutan Syahrir Number 12 A, to call Harun Masiku and tell him to submerge his phone in water and flee immediately,” stated Setyo.

Hasto’s Efforts to Obstruct the Investigation

In addition to assisting Harun Masiku’s escape, Hasto allegedly instructed his staff member, Kusnadi, to destroy a mobile phone to prevent KPK investigators from obtaining evidence. This incident took place on June 6, 2024, a day before Hasto was summoned as a witness in the case.

Furthermore, KPK revealed that Hasto also directed several witnesses in the Harun Masiku case to provide misleading statements to investigators. “HK gathered several individuals connected to this case and instructed them not to provide truthful information when summoned by KPK,” Setyo added.

Involvement in Bribery to the General Elections Commission (KPU)

This case originated from allegations of bribery involving Harun Masiku and several parties to secure his position as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2019-2024 period. Harun was accused of bribing members of the General Elections Commission (KPU) for the 2017-2022 period, including Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio, in December 2019.

The bribe was intended to ensure Wahyu Setiawan confirmed Harun as a DPR member, replacing a deceased candidate. This case eventually expanded to implicate Hasto Kristiyanto, who was suspected of obstructing the investigation and aiding Harun Masiku’s escape.

Hasto Kristiyanto and PDIP’s Response

Following his official detention, Hasto’s residence in Bekasi was observed to be quiet with no notable activities. In a brief statement, Hasto claimed he was ready to face the legal consequences of his case. “I will follow the legal process and fully entrust my defense to my legal counsel,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDIP elites have yet to issue an official statement regarding Hasto’s detention. However, several party members are reportedly discussing strategic steps to respond to this case.

Next Steps in the Investigation

KPK has confirmed that it will continue to investigate other potential individuals involved in this case. In addition to Hasto Kristiyanto, KPK has also named Donny Tri Istiqomah (DTI) as a suspect in the same matter. The anti-corruption agency emphasized that more suspects could be named as the investigation progresses.

With this detention, the public is closely watching KPK’s next move in pursuing Harun Masiku, who remains a fugitive. This case also serves as a test of Indonesia’s commitment to eradicating corruption, particularly in addressing obstruction of justice that hampers legal processes.
